18:00 – 19:30 Sketch & Sound (separate booking required)

MUSIC FOR MEDITATION:
Ever drifted off at a gig and wondered if that counted as meditation? Turns out your brain was probably in theta…
The default mode network doing exactly what it’s designed to do: Mind wandering into something close to flow state.

Music and Meditation is an experimental approach to live music, a hybrid of live performance and guided meditation. The aim is to create a more immersive gig experience, using music as the object of meditation – with the help of a qualified secular meditation instructor.

This time, we’re delighted to be welcoming Sulk Rooms – a pseudonym of the talented Yorkshire based composer Thomas Ragsdale.

By day Thomas writes music for TV documentaries and films — and by night he’s in his homemade studio with his dog Ezra, deep in reel to reels, Ableton and an awe-inspiring collection of synths.

His music draws the link between euphoric electronica and smoke engulfed drones.
Slow-morphing textures sequence and cascade, encapsulating intimate moments of colliding sound amongst fluttering arpeggios and transcending synth builds. Perfect for meditating to! Here’s a link to listen to his work: https://thomasragsdalemusic.bandcamp.com/

The meditation for this session will be guided by Feeling Sound’s qualified meditation teacher, Clare Savory, who’s also a musician and sound therapist based in Glossop.

The performance and guided meditation will last approximately 45 minutes, with a brief period before and after for introductions, explainers and feedback.

The Scout Hut sits beside a river, surrounded by trees, birdsong, and (this time of year) ducklings. It’s a cocoon of a venue.

No experience needed. Just lie or sit down, close your eyes, and see where it takes you…

This is a gig like no other. And your nervous system is going to thank you for it.

Why not make a night of it? Pop for a bite to eat in nearby pubs in between sessions, and then return for our sketch and sound event too?! Book both now, before you forget.

You can read more about the benefits of meditation on our website: FeelingSound.co where we’ve free resources of guided meditations and insight articles ready to explore whenever you need them.
