SUMMARY:A Feast of Folk with Ian F Ball & Friends
DESCRIPTION:Come and join multi-instrumentalist Ian F Ball and a friend or two in the Partington Theatre Club Room\, for an evening of folk music from the British Isles\, spanning three centuries. With music and songs to take you on a journey from the 18th century asylums of London and Oldham Parish Church\, through Derbyshire and Cornwall\, the rolling corn fields of rural England to the present day\, there will be something for everyone. \nThere will also be a performance of ‘The Great Derbyshire Lead Rush’. Based upon the BBC TV series from the 1970s\, ‘Ballad of the Northwest’\, with songs and anecdotes it tells the story of the rise and fall of the Derbyshire Lead mining industry. \nIan is an accomplished guitarist\, melodeon player\, singer and actor\, based in Oldham near Manchester in the UK. His music is played far and wide and has been recorded by bands and musicians on both sides of the Atlantic. \nPartington regulars will remember Ian from last year\, when he played Frank in ‘Educating Rita’ and this year’s production of ‘Wind in the Willows’ where he played Badger and supplied the music. \n“Excellent story telling” Ken Nicol – Steeleye Span.” \n“Ian is a heart-warming\, authentic artist with a talent to reach and connect with an audience. His reassuring and distinct voice brings stories to life alongside which his smooth and big open acoustic guitar completes a great sound”  Liam Corcoran

SUMMARY:‘Ancient and Modern’ & ‘Last Bus To Whitby’
DESCRIPTION:New to You Theatre presents.. \n‘Ancient and Modern’ & ‘Last Bus To Whitby’\nWritten and Directed by Martin Paul Roche \nNew To You Theatre bring these two very popular plays to Partington Theatre as part of their summer tour. Two stories\, two characters\, two lives\, two journeys. Big Al is waiting to go on a journey he has waited a lifetime for on the last bus to Whitby. Stella is waiting to go on a journey to midnight mass and it feels like a lifetime since she rang ‘Speedy Cabs’ taxis to take her! \nThese one-act monologue plays explore those times we finally get around to listening to an important person in our lives. Someone whom we often neglect. Ourselves. Both stories explore in an innocent\, gentle and bygone way\, what we want from life and what happens when we muster the courage to go find it. Moreover\, that the real humour in life only comes from having lived it. For clarity of mind can be found during the most surprising of life’s journeys. Be that on a bus to Whitby or a taxi ride to midnight mass. \nWhat the audiences have said: \n“Laugh out loud funny and very thought provoking. \nTwo excellent performances. Go and see it if you can. New plays on tour. Brilliant.” \n“Absolutely brilliant. Both performances did justice to the writing! Great plays\, very poignant in parts but ‘laugh out loud’ comedic in others.” \nFeaturing Rachel Harrison and Mark Rosenthal.

SUMMARY:Beryl
DESCRIPTION:It was 1954 when Beryl Charnock met keen cyclist Charlie Burton. In those days they cycled in clubs and once Beryl started she was smitten\, not only with Charlie\, but by the thrill and freedom found on two wheels. Beryl was better than good\, she was the best\, and she was determined to stay that way. \nBeryl\, which celebrates the extraordinary achievements of this inspirational cyclist\, was specially commissioned as an adaptation from Maxine Peake’s acclaimed Radio 4 play. Beryl Burton was five times world-pursuit champion\, thirteen times national champion and twice road-racing world champion. Her accolades include time trials\, former world-record holder\, numerous sports awards\, an MBE and and OBE. Burton was one of the most astonishing sports people ever to have lived\, but she remains something of a mystery. \n\nThis amateur production of “Beryl” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd. www.concordtheatricals.co.uk

SUMMARY:Peterloo in Rock
DESCRIPTION:Experience the powerful fusion of progressive folk rock with classic rock\, indie and blues as The Reformers of Peterloo showcase Peterloo in Rock.  The show begins in the immediate aftermath of the 1819 massacre\, guiding the audience through pivotal reforms of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and culminating in the present day. \nAfter an autumn tour with sell out venues and standing ovations\, The Reformers of Peterloo are heading to the studio to record the first EP featuring songs from Peterloo in Rock. The EP will be available in many formats including CD. The principal writer and composer\, Robert (Bob) Carter\, explains that the early reformers were looking for many things that have now been changed\, such as: \n\nFairer distribution of parliamentary seats\nA voice for the working people of the north\nUniversal suffrage including a vote for all\nAbolition of the corn laws to allow affordable food\nGreater equality\n\nDespite these historical efforts and successes\, Carter poignantly highlights that the struggle for equality continues\, as those in power often prioritise their own interests over the welfare of ordinary people. The rich continue to get richer while the poor struggle to make ends meet. In effect\, at the root of everything\, nothings really changed. This enduring theme of ‘nothing’s changed’ resonates throughout the music\, offering a reflective and thought-provoking experience. \nThe show features a fabulous complementary visual presentation created by famed graphic novelist Polyp (Peterloo\, Witnesses to a Massacre; Courage)\, generating a fully immersive audio-visual experience that promises to be emotional\, educational and extremely entertaining.  Don’t miss this unique opportunity to witness a musical journey that blends historical significance with contemporary relevance\, all set to an unforgettable soundtrack. \nMark your calendars for the 7th March 2026 at Partington Theatre in Glossop for an experience of music\, history\, and powerful storytelling. These are events that you won’t want to miss! \nDon’t just take our word for it\, this is what Larry Gott\, former guitarist with Manchester legends James had to say to Robert Carter after watching the show recently ‘Congratulations on tonight’s performance Bob\, an excellent production and a worthy subject matter. Well done on your achievement and the deserved ovation  you should be proud. Lx’ \nEvent Details \nStarts at 7:30PM

SUMMARY:The Kitchen Sink
DESCRIPTION:Things aren’t going to plan for one family in Withernsea\, Yorkshire. Pieces are falling of Martin’s milk float as quickly as he’s losing customers and something’s up with Kath’s kitchen sink. Billy is pinning his hopes of a place at art college on a revealing portrait of Dolly Parton\, whilst Sophie’s dreams of becoming a ju-jitsu teacher might be disappearing down the plughole. \nAmid the dreaming\, the dramas and the dirty dishes\, something has to give. But will it be Kath or the kitchen sink? \nTom Wells’ irresistibly funny and tender play is about big dreams and small changes. It premiered at the Bush Theatre\, London\, in November 2011\, in a production directed by Tamara Harvey. \n\nThis is an amateur production by arrangement with Nick Hern Books.

SUMMARY:U3A Dance
DESCRIPTION:Founded in 1994 by local Glossop residents\, the UK u3a movement\, aims to encourage groups of people in their third age to come together and continue their enjoyment of learning in subjects of interest to them. \nThe u3a movement is non-religious and non-political and has three main principles: \nThe Third Age Principle: \nMembership of a u3a is open to all in their third age\, which is defined not by a particular age but by a period in life in which full time employment has ceased. \nThe Self-help Learning Principle: \nMembers form interest groups covering as wide a range of topics and activities as they desire; by the members\, for the members. \nThe Mutual Aid Principle: \nEach u3a is a mutual aid organisation\, operationally independent but a member of The Third Age Trust\, which requires adherence to the guiding principles of the u3a movement.
